Ashfield is currently recruiting for a Urology Nurse Specialist to cover the North East territory on behalf of our Client. Our Client is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative medical products focused on therapies for the management of chronic conditions. They provide products used for advanced chronic and acute wound care, ostomy care, continence and critical care and infusion devices used in the treatment of diabetes and other conditions. 

The Urology Nurse Specialist will be responsible for the delivery of safe and high quality specialist nursing care by providing advice, training and supportive care to patients and their carers. They will work autonomously combining expert knowledge in specialist practice with advanced clinical judgement in delivering care to people with urinary symptoms or continence difficulties They will work as an integral part of the Nursing Team and in partnership with other healthcare professionals to deliver care to patients in their own homes, NHS Departments and Clinics, Private Hospitals and other Independent Providers

Key Responsibilities
• Provide specialist urology nursing care underpinned by sound theoretical knowledge
• Undertake specialised clinical assessment to plan, implement and evaluate the patients’ care needs
• Advise on, and fit appliances to manage urinary tract symptoms
• Conduct Appliance User Reviews
• Teach patients Intermittent Self Catheterisation
• Carry our bladder scans where appropriate
• Ensure patients are involved in decisions concerning their treatment and care
• Teach patients and carers independent urology care to regain an independent lifestyle and good quality of life 
• Follow up patients to provide ongoing support and continuity of care
• Maintain up to date knowledge of existing and new symptom management, appliance and products
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with policies and NMC Guidelines 
• Ensure all patient records both electronic and paper are protected and transported as per the Company policies
• Ensure timely feedback to the referring professionals to facilitate continuity of care for the patient 
• Maintain own professional development and  portfolio of evidence for purposes of revalidation and registration
• Responsible for the collection and reporting of service activity data as agreed with line manager
• Development of the Nursing Service – Urology through effective working with the sales teams to support existing accounts and identify potential new accounts
• Establish effective working relationships with other healthcare professionals, and build a network of clinical contacts e.g. Continence Advisors, Urology Nurses etc.
• Ensure the correct and appropriate use of all personal protective equipment provided including the use of lone worker devices

Essential Skills
• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
• Urology / Continence specialist qualification – evidence of CDP relevant to specialty
• Catheter care experience
• ISC experience
• Fitting of appliances
• Full UK driving licence
• 2 years post registration experience
• 1 year Urology / Continence experience
• Experienced in delivering Urology / Continence care in both Primary and Secondary care settings
• Has a specialist understanding of Urology / Continence and products available for safe and effective patient care.
• Has specialist knowledge of available products and appliances 
• Has ability to advise patients on appropriate choice
• Keeps up to date with new technologies and advances in Urology / Continence
• Communicates sensitive, condition related information to patients and relatives
• Builds relationships with and communicates clearly with external customers including Specialist Nurses, Consultants, District Nurses and other relevant HCP 
• Is able to work under pressure and prioritise workload to ensure that the service offered meets the expectation of the customer/ patients
• Ability to identify and act upon clinical/business opportunities to increase own profile within customer setting and achieve business objectives.
• Understands team needs and shares ideas/suggestions to support the Business Unit objectives. 
• Builds relationships internally, specifically with care centres, marketing, regulatory, and inputs as required with key wording and collation of clinical research, case studies etc. 
• Has a flexible approach with an open mind and is prepared to change within the role to meet the current business strategy. 
• Proven ability to deal with customers at all levels in an efficient and confident manner, taking into consideration the often demanding environment within the NHS
• Effective communication through all media
• Provide evidence of self-motivation
• Basic IT skills
